Watch Telemundo, Galavision, Univision. Watch the channels in Spanish, they always have people dancing, copy what they're doing and try to record it. I'm not a professional, but all my friends are non-latinos and so they want me to teach them. I have them put two pieces of tape or post-it notes on the wall, simbolizing hands and have them practice with those. That way they know the distance that they have to keep and also know that if they turn, they have to end up at the same place. Hopefully that helps, the best advice I can give though is have fun! I'm a good dancer (so I've been told), but I always have fun with people that just goof around with confidence. I love that!

The trick is, these dances are all couple dances. You might learn the steps by yourself, but if you don't learn the interaction with the partner, you'll always be told that you can't dance. There are cheap classes you can take, it is better than no instructions at all. Almost every latin club that I know teaches a lesson before the dancing starts. It costs you only like $5 more than the cover charge, I think it's worth the money.
