I've been practicing my stretching, and I've been "writing the alphabet" with my feet, and practicing on pointing my toes. I've been practicing the positions and reading a lot. I heard that they move older students to Pointe faster. Is that true? How long will it take me to get en pointe. I'l hopefully be starting Ballet this fall, and I have had no Ballet experiance before that.
I'm 15, do you think i can move to Pointe in three years when I go to college?? Do you think a college will accept a ballerina that HASN'T been dancing since she was 3? =/

One of the problems with young ballerinas (not you, since you are smart enough to ask the question in the way you did) is the rush to get on pointe. Make sure you have a good and serious teacher (a retired ballerina or danseur) and not some "Dolly Dinkle Dance and Baton Twirling Academy." A good teacher will work with dancers, parents, doctors....etc and make the determination. Pointe work destroys feet. It's true...ask retired dancers. If you start too early, you will end up ending your career early and walking funny for all your older years. If you build up to it slowly (3 years is a good plan) you will be strong enough to sustain the pressure on toes and phalangeal-metatarsal joints and keep dancing for many years.

The other question....YES....colleges will take dancers who haven't had a lifetime of dance. However, ballet is not a university art form. A ballet school (of a good professional company) is a better place for ballet. University dance departments are good places for modern dance.

Well it all depends on how fast you learn. I started ballet when i was almost 11 and now I'm almost 15. It took me 2 years to get up on point. It has taken me 4 years to catch up to the other people my age. i went from begginer1 to advanced in about 3 years. My teacher believes that older students do learn ballet faster than the younger ones. and yes I'm sure there is a college out there that will accept you. You see most collages value ability no years of experiance

They typically do move older students onto pointe faster, but only if they are ready, not souly on their age. How long it takes for you to get onto pointe really depends on you, my first year of ballet I was 13, worked my butt off and practiced a lot and I was put onto pointe the next year. And don't worry colleges will accept you, some people don't even start dance until their first year of college. In class pay attention, work hard, practice, and prove to everyone that your ready for pointe! good luck : )

it is very well possible for you to move up to pointe in 3 years. it will take a while to catch up, though. im not going to say something cheesy like "you can do anything if u put your mind to it" as true as that is, it will take work. it will take effort. it will take confidence, strength, and perseverance. but it is possible. there are colleges that will accept you, but again it will take a lot of practice and work. older students tend to learn ballet at a faster rate b/c they unerstand better and know how to try. im not saying that kids dont kno how to.

go for it. you can do it! good luck!
