I have two baby rats, and they STINK. I have some cedar shavings that I bought for them and someone said that they are poisonous. Is this true?

Cedar shaving are not really good for any pets. They cause lung problems and to some animals like ferrets they can even cause death. They produce an oil/dust when breathed can cause all kinds of issues and illnesses. However, I am not sure if it will do the same for a rat but I would not take that chance. Consider something like yesterdays new instead. Good luck.

Also cedar shavings are know to cause serious skin allergic reactions. I would never recommend cedar for any small animal. And most of the time I don't recommend pine either. Too many respiratory problems. Use Carefresh and keep the cage clean.

Neither cedar nor pine SHAVINGS are good for any type of small animal as they are aromatic woods and can cause respiratory problems. In PELLETED form however they are said to be safe(Feline Pine, Feline Fresh). Check into it.
Scoop their litter at least twice daily and give the cage a total clean up once a week and your ratties should smell a lot sweeter. Good luck to you.

No. Pine and cedar are toxic to small animals. There are safer alternatives, such as Carefresh, Aspen and Cel-Absorb.

a lot of animals are alergic to cedar and it is known to give lung problems.
I sugest using baking soda in teh cage it cuts the odor. or tehy sell sprays to cut the odor.
You may also need to change the cage more often.
tehy should be done everyday as rats urine has a lot of amonia in it
