Punk=Dead Kennedys, The Descendants, The Vandals, Screeching Weasel, The Clash, the Dead Milkmen, The Sex Pistols, to name a few
Emo=emotional hardcore not MCR, 30 seconds to Mars and that stuff. Emo is Rites of Spring. A movement that started in Washington when Hardcore bands started to use more emotional lyrics. I hate the word emo now. Anyone really like punk?

I like your rant on this subject. It's the myspace generation. It happened very suddenly. Us late teenage/20 somethings may not be that much older than our younger, clueless brethern, but it would be bizarre how completely different youth culture is from when we grew up if not for the obvious reason of myspace. Before Myspace, beyond mohawks and moshing, "scenes" were reigonal in what trends they had. Impressionable young children that will do anything to fit in find each other from New York to Oregon and mimmick each other. In this way a brush fire became a forest fire. Now we're in a decade gripped with even more insanity than the 80's. Widespread cable television in the 80's was what caused new wave. Is it really different from the new wave kids/Motley Crüe (see some of those rediculous hair cuts! Nikki Sixx all over and they don't even realize it!!!) fans back then? I don't think so. Well maybe, in that they are much more vain and just plain ****** up.... and younger. Also, there used to be no Hot Topic, and alternative underground music was not only actually underground, but it was despised by the outside world. Now it's a business just like all contemporary music. These kids will NEVER EVER appreciate the music for what it REALLY is. When they are our age or even 10 years or so older than we are now, things will be radically different again and they will claim that My Chemical Romance was real emo, +44 was real punk, and Trivium was real metal. I don't even want to know what will become of us.

I just don't like how everything gets called either punk or emo, with what they're talking about isn't really either category. I'm with you on The Clash and Dead Kennedys, also I like bands like Suicidal Tendencies, NoFX, Husker Du, Bad Brains, Bad Religion, Propagandhi, Pennywise, Sonic Youth, Misfits and Black Flag. Stuff I listened to during those years anyway. I'm sure I still have some of their stuff around here.

Yes, I really like punk. Like Sum 41. And yes, it's annoying.
