Work out A LOT this summer, a line backer your weight should be all muscle. I'm 40 lbs lighter then you and can do the same amount on bench, you gotta bulk up. You might not get too much time in the up coming season, but if you stick with it you bulk up and your coaches will help you get huge.

Also, most schools in my area, east coast, have summer training all summer long, so I would call your local high school you will be going to and ask him what the deal is.

You need to beef up your upper body, 170 is ok, good for somebody weighing 131, but you need to be weighing 170+ and benching 250+. Your squat will improve over time as well, 315 is a healthy start, you should hit 500+ before thinking too highly tho. You can do division 2 based on your specs. Of course, you could be really really good, really fast and quick (yes there's a difference), and break out anywhere. But start with D-2 if you do really well either stay there and be the star, or try out for a D-1 school.

At 15 years old I was benching 225 (Max) 185 12 reps and I wrestled at 135 lbs. My natural weight was about 140 though.

Just keep doing it. Call your coach and ask him for a training plan if he already hasn't hooked you up. At your size you should be able to knock out at least 20 reps at 135 lbs.

Hey size wise your doing great! In high school, That's where I sat but you might want to get to 10 reps of more like 195 lbs by your Junior year. That's about where I was my senior year as a DE/OLB. But what I found that my speed and awareness of what was going on was more important than my strength. Even with my strength, those 300lb linemen were nothing when I can use my speed to out play them.

You should really work on your upper body strength if you want to play linebacker. You are a good size/weight for a freshman team, but at your age my team set our goal as a max out on our bench at least 50 lbs above our body weight and max squat 2x our body weight. That translated to 265/420 for me and with a lot of hard work and some sweat and tears shed in the weightroom practically our whole team hit their goals with most surpassing them. Set a realistic goal and do not stop working until you hit it! You will hit plateaus in your work outs but just keep working and try different methods to work your muscles (we used to have a coach sit down by the bench with a towel around our bar and add resistance coming down when we hit plateaus to help build muscles that we were neglecting like our triceps) and you can get there. And remember, it is not about reaching the end when you get to your goals, but re-setting goals to continuously improve yourself. The rest will take care of itself if you work hard.

bud, if i was you i would start out at safty while you are in highschool.. for varsity that is..if its only jr varsity or freshman you would be fine..but for highschool linebacker your no where near big enough or bulky enough i play outside linebacker for a kinda big school...and im 5'4 and 145 pounds but i can also bench 240 so yeah i could prolly do 95 pounds prolly 50 times lol so if i was you for varsity till you bulk up a little Safty probly wouldnt be a bad idea or possibly outside i guess but inside linebackers a no way..and outside is very slim to none bro...

when i was a sophmore i wrestled at 132 pounds and could max out bench (1 rep) at 205 pounds...you definitely need to try and at least work out to get your bench up to your own weight...
