No, it first came from dooms day theories off the Mayan Calendar, but that was proved to have not predicted the end of the world, just the end of the calendar when the calendar starts over again (the calendar was also proved flawed once it got down to the last 'year' on Mayan calendar). Then they said Nostradamus predicted 2012, but he also say he has predictions for past the year 2100, so that doesn't really make sense. AND then the Bible Codes said that 2012 was the end of the world, but the way the bible codes are interpreted are just ridiculous.
The world isn't going to end in 2012, so plan to be around for a while.

I don't remember why I keep hearing that, but I doubt it. It won't be the world that ends, if anything, it will be the human race. The world will still be floating in space orbiting the sun for ever and ever until and if something takes it out. Our existence here is Earth's 15 minutes of fame.
Lol, and do you know how long the Earth has been here? Lol, why do we think that we're so special enough to be the ones who end it? Hahaha..

I recently read a Yahoo!Answer to a similar question and there was an answer that stated the Mayans predicted the end on 12/21/12.

What, it's only expected that the world will last another 5 years? Even an Inconvenient Truth gave the world more years than that.

No, it's apparently going to end in 3000 years because the sun will explode but definitely not in 2012

I think you're talking about the old Mayan calendar, which only goes to 2014. Quite a few people take stock in the Mayan people, who reportedly used pyramids before ancient egyptians and posessed technology that surpassed anything we've come up with yet. I dunno , i personally think it was just ill planning and they thought the world would be done by then...

Till the time I was in high school I used to wish that the world ended on the very day of my final exams due to the fear... But guess what, to my surprise, it never happened - even till now.
