More then likely the block isnt cracked, it's more likely the head(s) are cracked, if that is the case you need new castings and a valve job, a little pricey but much cheaper then a new /rebuild engine

If the block is cracked (a machine shop can test this for you), it's not really worth the trouble. The '93 Taurus would have an iron engine block that's just about impossible to weld.
If it merely has a blown head gasket, that is repairable. A good mechanic will check the gasket surfaces for flatness and have them milled flat if they are warped. A bad mechanic won't and the engine may very well continue to have problems.

IF the block is cracked then it's done with. You'll have coolant leaking into places it doesn't need to be and there's no way to fix it with out a new engine or swapping your internal into a new block. You either get coolant in your cylinders or coolant leaking out of the engine.
Over heating can also cause head cracks. (heads are a lot cheaper than engines), head warps that can be machined out for cheap, and blown head gaskets that aren't too expensive to fix. Blown head gaskets can give the same symptoms as a cracked block.
Lets hope you got any thing other than a cracked block. :)

If the block is cracked, it's toast; you can't adequately repair a cracked block. You can't even sell a vehicle with a cracked block (in most states). You've got to have a new (or rebuilt) engine installed or just junk the car. Sorry!

The engine is not worth spending money on,they were not very good to start with, you have some options, you could get a factory rebuilt engine from the dealer, you could get a used engine from the wreckers,or just scrap your car.Unless the body and interior are in absolute mint condition the last option would be my choice.

Put the car up for sale, stating that it has a cracked block in the ad.
Take the proceeds from the sale and buy another car.
Repair costs will exceed blue book value.

once cracked, it needs a new motor, a 1993 motor probably installed is about $1500-2500, is it worth it for you?
