You can comfortably fit zero (0) plecos in a 5 gallon tank. You feed them vegetables and algae wafers. For tons of info on plecos check out http://www.planetcatfish.com

Ryan...what KIND of pleco? That's like saying what can you tell me about characins :) It's a type of fish, known as a suckerfish or some even just say algae eater. The common pleco gets up to 2 feet long so obviously NONE in a 5 gallon tank.

Many eat algae when small and stop eating it as adults. They need sinking wafers, eat at night, and usually like a piece of driftwood to latch onto and eat.

It's an untruth that they'll help keep your tank clean. Plecos, cichlids and goldfish have the highest ammonia output among the fish.

There is a gold spot dwarf pleco that will only reach a few inches.

Its a large subject however, off the top of my head i can think of nothing that would fit in 5 gallons of water. Maybe there's some obscure L No's out there that will cost about 500usd's and is 1/2inch long at max. Most are river fish and will grow fast irrelevant of the space.
You already have 4 neon's and 3 blue tetra's you are already pushing the capacity of your 5 gallons.

A Common Pleco?

You can't even fit one into a 10 gallon. Common Plecos grow to over a foot long.

If you want something to eat some algae, I suggest Otocinclus Catfish, they stay small, and are more active.

Here is a page on them... http://liveaquaria.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=923&N=0

none in a 5 gallon tank, i have a 90 gallon with african cichlids and one pleco that is just about a foot long. they need a lot of room to scavange around. make sure (when you get a bigger tank) that you have some sort of drift wood in the tank and some places for your pleco to hide. they eat mainly at night, pet stores sell algae discs that many plecos enjoy.

plecos, part of a large family of scavenger fishes from south America that have developed sucking mouths to hold on to rocks in strong currents of the rivers. they are known to eat algae, but in reality, they will eat just about everything, including fish. they love to feed at night, and they are sometimes only active when the lights go out. they bother other fish sometimes, especially goldfish and discus because of the heavy slime coats these fish possess. when you run out of algae, use algae wafers form the pets store, or a piece of zuccinni tied to a rock in the tank. a 5 gallon tank is good for a small one, but make sure it is not tormenting the other fish at night, look for sores on the other fishes bodies as a sign of this. plecos can range in price from 2 dollars to 3000 dollars depending upon the species. i recommend the 2 dollar ones!

Plecostomus are well-known algae eaters. They can attach themselves to hard surfaces using specially adapted mouth parts. Primarily nocturnal, Plecos are scavengers and will eat almost anything, including live plants. Provide plenty of rocks, plants and driftwood. They will uproot and eat live plants, so don't house them with it. They actually poop more than they eat, so it wouldn't be a good idea to house them in a tank with weak filtration.

You can't fit any in a 5 gallon tank because they grow to 2 feet.
