My ancestors were NOT 'illegals' but they were immigrants. On my father's side, the family came over before the Revolutionary War, and I am related to a man who signed the Constitution and to Abraham Lincoln.
On my mother's side, SHE is a Legal Alien and has lived and worked and paid taxes in the USA for most of her life. The only reason that she has not applied for citizenship is because the US wants new citizens to renounce their original citizenship rather than allowing dual citizenship.
Most immigrants (legal or not) have come to the USA to make a better life for themselves and their families, and the country once welcomed them with open arms in a booming agricultural and industrial economy.
Now our economy is in decline, and many feel that illegal aliens put too high a burden on our social services. I agree; however, there is also the issue of who would do those jobs if they weren't here? American teenagers don't seem to be willing to work for$6-7.00 an hour, they all want to live like celebrities. Farmers and others who need laborers can't afford to pay the wages, insurance and benefits that would be necessary, so they pay "under the table" to anyone willing to get their hands dirty (legal or not).
If your friend's mother is a Doctor, then she has to be a legal resident, as well as get fingerprinted and undergo a criminal background check, in order to obtain a professional license to work here.

I think immigrants have a right to come here and live. Do it the correct way. Apply for a visa, get a job, pay your taxes and so forth and be American. Do not come into this country thinking that we should give you a home, food and health care for free.
Without you doing anything in exchange...That's totally wrong!
Do your part and everything should fall into place. If one enters illegally, he/she is already starting off on bad terms...Remove the unwilling, lazy folks that do not wish to work for a living and keep the ones who do.
Immigration into a new land means also respecting its heritage and language and law. Disrespect these, go back where you came.

If you are legal they good that you went on the right way. My mom came here under amnesty because of the Sandinistas in Nicaragua and she still decided to become a legal citizen the right way. To the illegal ones I have mixed feelings. If you are going to work extremely hard because of your family and you are desperate then I guess I can deal with that but don't come here illegally and break the law and not work. I also think that if you are an immigrant, no matter what country you should learn to speak English if you are coming into the U.S.

America is the "Great Melting Pot" where the population
is made up people from around the globe...that is what made
America great. From the first settlers to the recent immigrants, we are Americans, and it doesn't matter where
we can trace our roots from. Native Americans are a
proud people and to have contributed much to what America
is today...the Navajo language gave us codes the enemy
during WWII could not decipher...the Pacific was ours
thanks to that...Our country could not have started in the
first place if not for the help of the Native Americans..
What about immigrants you ask....without them, there would
have been NO ingredients for the Melting Pot....

I have no problem with immigration. You are right except for Native Americans we are a country of immigrants. I do have problem with illegals. I have an even bigger problem with our government giving free health care, food stamps and other assistance to illegals when they won't give free health care to its own citizens. This is an outrage!
I am part Native American, Turkish, German and English.

It's because people who say it are actual citizens who pay taxes and have earned their rights as Americans. Just think about it: a little over 50% of illegal immigrants have or won't earn their high school diploma, so most of them will be living off of government assistance like welfare, food stamps, etc.. and just think.. the money that gets taken out of your check that you work so hard for is going to them. I know there are Americans like that too, but we're already paying for their problems. It's not right we have to pay for other's problems that haven't even earned their right as a citizen yet. I'm not against the legal immigrants here, just the illegal ones. I'm not a racist person, I'm just being honest.

I'm part native american. And I don't care about legal immigrants. I say if you work hard and come here the legal way, then come on in. But for those people that hop the fences and work without paying taxes and bring down our economy and our way of life, they can go right back to where they came from. I'm moving to Denmark and I don't plan on hopping a plane and sneaking in there illegally. I plan to learn the language and go there on a student visa and then eventually apply for citizenship, like it should be done.

The so-called native americans killed the people who were here before them. We have found the archaeological records to prove this. Illegal Immigrants is just a political connotation, it means nothing to the way humans have moved and relocated for millions of years.

I don't hate legal immigrants. I respect them for the respect for America they showed when they came here legally. People who sneak across the border are saying to me that they have no respect for my country, and that makes them my enemy. And we have evidence that islamofascist groups are sneaking terrorists into America, and those terrorists will not care which people in America they kill, so legal immigrants and maybe illegals will be among the victims of the muslim terrorists. I welcome people who want to work and have a better life in America, and who love America and want to help America become stronger so more people can have the good life most Americans have, and people from other countries come here for. But as for illegals, they have shown their disrespect when they refused to sign the guest book...

I think its great for immigrants to come into this country, as long as they work on becomming legal. I wouldn't even be here today if my dad and his family wasn't allowed to come over from Cuba. America is the land of opportunity...everyone should have the right to take a part in it no matter where they were born.
