I It will take time. Be patient. Make looking for a job your "job"-keep normal work hours within reason. Start at 8 quit at 5 or 6, take breaks. Take weekends off but read and make notes about ads in the paper. Get the book "Get a Job in 30 days or Less-A Realistic Plan for finding the right Job Fast. By Matthew Deluca and Nanette Deluca. McGraw-HILL 1999.

Ok, that said you need a routine or consistent approach everyday, a well written Resume, tailored to each position of interest. Tailored cover letters for each position are helpful, no need to mention your situation on letter-emphasize how well your strengths meet the job requirements. Maintain a positive attitude when interviewing- see www.about.com About.com's website on interviewing, resumes, cover letters, search methods and many more topics such as how to explain the fact that you were forced to be out for 3 years due to a disability. If the topic comes up in an interview do not elaborate in detail simply state that you were disabled but now it is over and in the past and will not impact your performance. Understand your knowledge, skills and abilities when writing your resume and when interviewing, point out how they will help the company.

Consider starting out with a temporary or temp to perm job agency. They tend not to care about a legitimate reason for being out of work but more on what you can bring to their client companies now. Update your skills if you have not already done so.

Two detached retina occurrences and associated surgeries kept me out of work for 6 months, followed by another 12 of only being able to work part-time. The after effects make it difficult for me to use a PC for more than an hour or so and then I need to find something else--return phone calls, confer in person with co-workers etc,....Employers are not supposed to discriminate because you were disabled, however if cannot perform the essentials duties and job functions because you did not stay current with advances in your field (I hope that you did) then that is a valid reason to pass you buy. However, I started back through temp agencies like AEROTEK, Precision resources, MRI--check the yellow pages under employment. Also, use your states workforce center. Many companies via agreements with the state set aside a certain number of positions for people that are or were disabled.

It is a tough process and be depressing but hang in there using the States career counselors to help you also.
I wish you the best.

If you're being discriminated against, because
of ur disability you might have the chance to file
against the company/s because of ur 'welfare rights'.

www.PeopleResources.org is one website
that's for those with disabilities.
