The first thing you need to do is get a good book on keeping a saltwater aquarium. It may appear to be a waste of money with all of the information that's available on the web, but trust me, it's far from a waste of money and in fact will be the single best piece of equipment you can possibly buy. Information on the web is only as good as the source and sometimes the source can be really bad. Until you can get your book and start reading up, I would like to direct yo to a website that is high quality information from one of the best sources on marine aquariums. The link I am giving you is to a page of links within the site. Follow through them in a logical arrangement and you will find the majority of the material you need, however, do go out and get that book, it will be well worth it.

Hope this helps and welcome to the hobby.

Great answers so far, but I wanted to add, never stop learning about the hobby (equipment, species, brands, shops, online stores, etc) because it's always changing and improving and evolving. I'd recommend researching that fantastic fish FIRST that catches your eye in the petstore that you THINK you've read about somewhere, and he SHOULD be compatible, right?
Your mileage may vary as far as info on the net, and this guy's experience and her experience might all be alittle different.

sure, you can use it, you just need to have salt water and adjust the temperature to the coral's conditions, then you should get a saltwater filter and you will be good for fish.
