From the HBO mini series dead-wood the characters name is Al sweringen. A very evil man but very very smart. I love this character because it is a very adult like character. It doesn't try to impress you or over act or think he is better than anybody like most t.v. show characters now a days. He is who he is plain an simple. But, like I said what I like the most is how smart the guy is. A master planer, very realistic in his endeavor. Also, very human. The bad side is that he is very evil but, this makes him special. He thinks like a real evil person not like todays evil tv people. Todays evil character are very weak and kind of silly. This guy you do not want to cross path with.
I still haven't wacth the sopranos to compare but without a doubt as bad guys goes this is the guy. Oh, he is also loosely based on a real person that lived in deadwood back in the days.

I'll say Gregory House, played by Hugh Laurie, off of the show House on FOX. He's a very brilliant doctor, but he's also sarcastic, stubborn, self-righteous, nosey, often more concerned with diagnosing the client then saving his or her life, addicted to the painkiller Vicodin, constantly in trouble with his boss Cuddey, often interfering in other people's lives, been in trouble with the law, and avoiding clinic duty whenever possible. He doesn't take crap from anyone, but he's perfectly capable of dishing it out. He also has a habit of calling children 'parasites'. He wields a cane with flames on it and drives a sweet motorcycle. House routinely has his team break into his patients' homes in order to diagnose diseases. He often uses trial-and-error when trying to diagnose patients. And if he thinks he knows what disease he's dealing with, he treats it, whether he has actual evidence to support his theory or not. All in all, a very funny, original, and entertaining character.
Honorable mention goes to Captain Jack Sparrow, played by Johnny Depp, from the Pirates of the Caribbean Trilogy. Also very funny, entertaining and original.
