because my router/modem will not configure with talk talk broadband settings

I agree with your second answer. Get rid of the sb modem and get the right configuration settings for talk talk. In addition to the dns settings you will need to know your VPI and VCI . These are usually found in adsl settings on your router and is basically the telephone number for your broadband service. For example mine is 1,50 The 1 is the VPI and 50 is VCI

If you set your router to obtain IP and dns automatically from your isp it should work providing your VPI and VCI are set correctly. You can also enter the dns, primary and secondary
manually. Don't forget to enter your log/username and password for your isp in basic settings.

You don't need the USB modem. There should be no reason why you can't connect to TalkTalk via your existing router/modem. Contact their helpdesk to find the exact settings you need.

course you can connect to talk talk through your router. just make sure you have the default uk settings used and it's dns servers are set correctly. search on google for others who have had the problem. even contact the router tech support as these have more knowledge than talk talk who have none at all. pppoa and chap auth aswell
