and if so, what does it feel like? I think I just broke my next to last toe. I injured it yesterday and it was hurting but an hour or so ago, I kicked a doorframe (wholly unintentional) and now i'm in serious pain and I can't move my toe. ouch ouch ouch. Do you think I broke it and if so, what do I do about it?
Thanks. Sadly enough, I'm totally serious.

If it's broken, it will continue to hurt, it may swell, and your foot will turn black & blue on the top and maybe on the bottom near the toe. Ice it, elevate it for a while. Take tylenol or Advil for the pain if you need to. Stay off it as much as possible. There's not much else you can do.

Hi, well first I would go and get an x-ray at the hospital. The signs to look out for when your toe is broken is:
It will probably hurt to walk. Other possible symptoms include swelling, pain, bruising, bleeding, weakness, numbness, or tingling of the injured toe. Because the break may move some bones out of place, the toe may look misshapen.
Try an ice pack put the ice pack in a thin towel and place on your toes do this every 15/20 mins this will reduce swelling and numb the pain also keep your leg raised on pillows that is higher than your heart
Good luck hope you are feeling better soon
Tina

I thought I broke my toe once. I stubbed my little toe just like you did and the next day it had a nice purple-yellowish bruise and hurt to move or walk on it.

I already had a doctor's appointment that day so they took an X-ray at the office to see if it was broken. It wasn't, but the doctor said even if it was there isn't much they can do for it.

He said the x-ray was just so he would know if I was going to be in pain for a day or to or 4-6 weeks!

Thankfully the pain went away soon after. I would say if it's still hurts tomorrow, try to get into the doctor and have an x-ray. If it is broken, maybe the can at least offer some kind of pain meds if it's really painful.

Well, you needed to do RICE: Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation. Since this took place yesterday, you're too late for RICE.

Now I recommend an anti-inflammatory drug like Advil or Aleve taken as directed with food.

Either go out on your own, or have a friend go to the store for you. You need some surgical tape and gauze. Wrap the gauze around your hurt toe and you pinkie toe. Wrap the tape around the gauze . The gauze is just for cushion and to keep those toes from sweating off the tape. If the toe throbs, you have wrapped the tape too tight and need to loosen it.

There isn't anything more a doctor would do for it, they just tape them together at the ER. Best of luck to you. I broke the same toe, it's never looked the same. Poor little toe.

Get well soon. Take it easy.

I broke mine in exactly the same way! Very painful! Unfortunately nothing can be done - even if you go to the doctor or A & E! It cant be plastered or anything!

Try and strap it using plaster tape to the toe next to it, dont wear tight shoes and try and keep of it. Take neurofen for the pain as it acts as an anti inflammatory so will help with any swelling!

Hobble about and get as much sympathy as possible!! Apparently eating lots of chocolate is good for broken toes!!!

Broken toes are quite common. Unless the bone is poking through the skin, the only treatment is splinting it by taping it to the toe next door. Keep your foot elevated and take some Tylenol or Advil for the pain! I do feel your pain!!

I've not but my brother has, he stubbed his toe on about a millimetre of paving slab which was raised above the level of the grass in our childhood garden, funniest thing I've ever seen. By all accounts it's pretty painful but there is nothing anyone can do for you. Ice it and tape it to the next toe for support :)

I broke my big toe throwing a roundhouse kick at my teacher, and all you can do is to tape it up to the little toe, as that will reduce the pain, when you walk. They do not put a cast on it, just tape. I had my big toe taped to my second toe, and that worked pretty good.
