Why when you meet someone the first question they ask is what do you do for a living?
Its like they mentally asses yo by what you do for a living, if a road sweeper is happy and looks after his family well, isn't that better than someone who is so stressed by trying to impress everyone, that he is to stressed to enjoy life and family., and paying of the loan on his porsche! BTW I am a hairdresser and happy. i think its how happy and content we are that is the issue not having the biggest house or big car.

Yes i understand what you mean, all people worry about these days is money!! And how rich you are!! Well stuff them! Happiness is one of the only things you should want, not to have stacks of money and not enjoying life, the point of life is to live it! I know that you should always work for what you get, but not so much you can never be happy and un stressed, just because you get loads of money! Also have you noticed that if you are bleeding rich, they like you LOTS more, and if you are poor, they dont want to know! Well you are still the same person whatever you do and dont have!! People just dont care, they are to busy with trying to get loaded and UNHAPPY!!!!

They do to some people but not me. I would rarely ask someone what they worked at but i do see your point. People sometimes put people into certain categories by various ways. Some ask what do you drive, a question posted earlier by someone was what type of house do you live in?
I often tell the true story of a fella who went to apply for a job as a bin man, refuge collector or whatever the job title is now.
Well he discovered he needed five o levels which he didn't have. So he set up his own garden, landscape business and is now a millionaire.
To any children reading this don't stop studying.

I know a few hairdressers, they all have a happy disposition, and earn good money too.

Personally, if someone is more interested in the car you drive, they are either a wannabe mechanic, or very shallow.

Tell them you own a taxi firm, and will call one of 'your men' to take you home.

In the morning, give her a taxi card and tell them they should mention your name when the cab driver asks for his fair.

The shallow individual will remember you always there after.

And you will still be in bed with a smile on your face.

I generally have to explain what I do...My job title is Direct Support Provider. I work in a day program for developmentally disabled adults. I work directly with these people supporting their needs and trying to keep them entertained, actively engaged in activities, teaching new skills and at times dodging fists. I love my job, the pay sucks for what I put up with most days (last week we had the stomach flu going through the place), but I love what I do.

There is more to life than a paycheck and stuff!

It impresses someone and actually does tell alot about you. If youre not impressed by the title but theactualperson then youre ahead of the game. Its our society that puts alot of significance into titles today and carries alot of weight on the impression meter. A title is exactly that,a title and nothing more. Most of our most notorious criminals had impressive jobs with big titles and look what happened. But youre right, one should be more impressed with the actual person themselves than a silly title

No it doesnt mean a thing, I work with people that have trained and studied got degrees etc sometimes I think that they patronize me as I have a fairly low key job, however I am the one living in a 6 bed house, mortgage free, driving a £50k mercedes, makes me laugh sometimes when they talk down to me and then they go home on the bus to their rented flat!

Unfortunately people are programmed to believe that someone with money and status socially makes your life better, when infact its the opposite, most affluent couples are the most misersable. I believe if you can provide for a family and love and respect your mate you can be happy for a long time.

I totally agree people judge others constantly and i find that depending on your title ,can be the route to how they treat you as a person ,,they are only interested in your status symbol eg proffession..if they are really egotistical , who they speak to is a reflection on who they are or who they think they would like to be.. SNOBS but what i realised is that people who judge this way are not worth knowing in the first place so its no loss to me if i never see them again .. but i know what your getting at .. xx

to me a job title isn't important. I agree with you, if you are happy doing what you do then that's the way it should be. Money can't buy everything and no one should be judged on what they do for a living as far as deciding if you want to be with that person or not. I look at it if they have a job and take care of what's theirs then it shows responsibilty and they care about what they do and taking care of what they got.

If you are happy with what you do then what business is it of ours or anyone elses?? Everyone has to do something...and as far as Im concerned, as long as you are trying and not sitting on your behind sucking the life out of the welfare program then what the hell...
