i am working with a budget of about 4,000 dollars us and i want to just go away for a while some where simple, some where beautiful, safe, and cheap. i know a dream, but i am really intreasted in seeing other cultures and diversity i was thinking india or south asia in general but any help in this matter would be welcomed oh and the amount of time is around a couple of months like two to three max thanks

There are three places I would suggest 1]Poland,the people are very friendly , you get cheap paying guest accommodation and for short term it would be wonderful. 2]Indonesia ---this country also is good for a three or four month stay in and around Jakarta and the cost of living is affordable. 3] My India --- It is a wonderful place to stay for relaxing and change of mood.It can be a little more expensive but the treats are rare and varying right from Kerala to Himalayas and from Manipur to Kutch

I would definitely recommend India. Even within the country, there is so much diversity that three months will hardly be enough to see and experience everything. If you don't want to travel much and stay more or less at the same place, you have numerous options to choose from. You can choose a hill station for peace and serenity, the coast for something more lively etc etc.
One word of caution- if you are coming to India in the summer months, stick to the hill stations as much as possible. The heat can be quite bad. The north India offers ample options like Rishikesh, Dehradun etc. Also, no matter where you go in India, things can't really be quiet ;)

You may visit India. The cost of living is not very high and if you can speak a bit of English then its not a problem at all. Staying in Himachal Pradesh ( a state in north India) is the best option. The season is great and you can see scenic beauty at its best.
