If you think Illinois is bad, come to Phoenix. We have the reputation of the worst city to drive in (worse than New York) and we hit the top ten most dangerous intersections TWICE (and I work at the former #1 most dangerous--former because they put cameras up, now it's #3). Our pollution is so bad that when they passed the 'Smoke-Free Arizona Act' there was no difference in the amount of polutants in the air. Everything here is dead from heat... which is another reason Phoenix is so crummy. Crime is huge here (eg: the Baseline Killer/Rapist), and I was even held up at gunpoint at a grocery store last summer! Our winters, which are only about a month and a half long, aren't that great either. The weather is nice, but snowbirds crowd our streets, especially since the Fiesta Bowl is held here. We are people's 'winter gettaway.' Some other reasons Phoenix is bad: Real estate is bad right now, we have no form of tourism (it is very boring here), everything is so spread out that it takes half a tank of gas to go to a store, minimum wage went up so many people are getting laid off, tap water is disgusting and is said to give people cancer, there are many illegal immigrants, which in turn is not only annoying but inconvenient (there are many signs only in Spanish and citizens who don't know Spanish can't read them, etc.), and people here are very rude to one another.

Spend a few days here. I'm sure you'll appreciate Illinois a little more then.
