Well.... I will be speaking generally here so of course this does not apply to everyone. And excuse my spelling and typos. I think faster than I write.

Americans are extremely hardworking, driven by the illusiveness of the American dream (Big house, big car and spending everyday of your life trying to pay it off so you can buy the next biggest thing) I think that the work ethic is abused by many companies and employers. Americans need more vacations.

I also feel that Americans are more color conscious than most societies, everything is either black, white, hispanic or asian and the tension between races is increasing unnecessarily. The differences are all man made and most are myths. I dont see alot of mixing on campuses and in public unless its a couple.

Americans are often misinformed through no fault of their own because the media is drastically controlled. There is no real news being shown on the regular channels and even CNN line up is becoming questionable. There is no information coming in on life in other countries and how our foreign policy affect the lives of other people in other countries. The TV shows are barely entertaining to ensure that people are in a sort of numb state (not too happy, definately not sad or angry) to promote consumerism with the excessive amount of commercials.

Americans are therefore naturally materialistic and are often mislead by their leadership. Americans are censored. The first amendment right is slowly being taken away and so is privacy.

Americans can be extremely intolerable of those that they do not understand, those who appear different i.e anyone who appears to be from the middle East right now.

The society appears to be very hypocritical, ranting about a great democracy but excludes or rather limits the rights of those whose sexual oreintation does not fall in the "norm".

So far thats what I have observed....may add a few details later.

i think because our society represents so many different ideas, peoples, religions, philosophies, ideals and socio-economic groups, we often are confused, disturbed and in a constant state of flux. and because we can have forums such as this one regardless of what some might think of it, we are able to spout whatever nonsence or brilliant insights come to our minds. we have many negative aspects as will any democracy. whether we are a true democracy or not, whether our freedoms remain as they were once meant to be, even whether our moral fiber seems weakened, we continue to move forward like a wave and recede accordingly. we can not have the 50's back; life seemed much simpler and purer then, but it was not. now we know so much about so many things that occur and most of what we hear thru the media aint exactly news we can cheer about, and we tend to get depressed , angry and cynical. come on people, if there was ever a time to think positively and see the good in this country, this is the time. you get what you wish for so if enough of us remain negative and see only bad , that is what we will reap. i say, hate Bush if you want to, just don't hate the whole set-up because it is us.

The American Society of yesteryear is failing. 95% of the US's wealth is in the hands of less than 1% of the population. People are loosing faith in the American Dream because it is becoming more unattainable, as evidence by the number of major corporations shipping their operations overseas for cheaper labor. The ultimate sign that our society is failing is look at the number of people incarcerated in jails and prisons across the country. There are more people incarcerated in prisons in the US, than there are in the states of RI, ME, WV and VT. That is scary.
