I live in the Burlington VT area and my Verizon contract is almost up. I only use about 30 minutes a month out of my 450 Verizon gives me. I think it would be more feasible to get the pay as you go plan but I want my phone to work when I need it in case of emergency. Anybody have any experience?

TracFone Nationwide Prepaid Wireless, in my opinion, is the best pay-as-you-go cellphone plan because there is no plan. Instead, you purchase the minutes yourself using prepaid airtime cards that you can purchase online at the website below, or buy at any store that sells them, including Wal-Mart. There are no hidden fees whatsoever, activation is FREE, and the phones come with the same features that any other cellphone would have (i.e. text messaging, camera, speed dial, voice dial, etc.). Plus, TracFone has a vast digital coverage area so there are few cases in which you will have no service at all. In addition to that, there are no contracts or obligations, so in the case that you don't like it you can simply let the airtime expire and your number will be removed from the database, and, if you change your mind you can reactivate it free of charge. Try it. I like it.

i have a t-mobile prepaid plan. $25 for almost 100+ minutes if i'm not mistaken.

in case of emergency, 911 call are free even if you don't have minutes left, as a matter of fact, you can call 911 even if you have an inactive sim card.

Metro PCS is the most popular pay as you go cell phone company, and I know that Cingular also offers pay as you go plans as well. Cingular will probably give you better coverage.
