Backed when I watched a lot of football instead of just highlights, Bo Jackson was the best.
This ? is a bit unfair, football is not like the other 2 big sports where all players have basically similar tasks it's much more specialized. Nobody has yet mentioned a defender.
Lawrence Taylor might be the best player ever.

WILLIAM "THE FRIDGE" PERRY
Bears defensive lineman
William Perry was mainly a run-stopper.
In his rookie year in the NFL, he led the 1985 Bears to a 12-0
start of the regular season which ended in 15-1 and a Super Bowl Championship. During his time with the Bears, he scored a touchdown from the one yard line in Super Bowl XX. That touchdown capped the Bears' 46-10 rout of the New England Patriots. So to me William Perry is THE BEST player EVER.

This question has no answer. It is hard to judge player over different decades and positions. How can you compare a RB from the 60's like Jim Brown to a RB today like TD. Its hard, we can not assume that if Brown played today he would be as successful. Understand, when Jim Brown played O-Linemen weighted around 250-275lbs if that much (now 310 lbs +), D-linemen ran high 4.9-5.0 40 yrd dash (now 4.4-4.5). Now Linebackers are as fast as RB (Urlacher), Safety's have Linebacker size with 4.3 40yrd dash speed ( Sean Taylor).
Also how can you compare TD with Tackles with Receptions with Interceptions with Rushing Yards. It is tough to compare. How is to say that Jerry Rice career receiving yards is more impressive than Emmit Smith's career rushing yards or visa versa. This is a question that will never have a definitive answer, it is all opinion.

The best football player ever comes down to opinion. Most experts say Jim Brown. Playing in only nine seasons for Cleveland, he broke almost every single rushing record of his time. They also only played 12 games in the 1950s and 1960s, so he only played 108 games. Imagine what he could have done in this time period.

Depends on if you're referring to a specific position, and you can get mutliple answers for each postion...
I'm partial to Jim Brown as the all-time best player.. One could also argue Sammy Baugh, Jerry Rice, Johnny Unitas, Dick Butkus, even Jim Thorpe as the greatest. I'm sure there'll be a lot of answers for this one....

I say its Otto Graham, Upon joining the Browns in 1946, he was switched to quarterback, where he would lead the team to the league championship game in each of his 10 seasons, winning on seven occasions
