I doubt it. The remaining base will hate their guts if they do.
No, what theyre going to do is distance themselves from Bush by calling him a liberal in Republican clothes. That way they can attempt to salvage the name of the GOP, by identifying Bush with the "liberals". Conveniently that will be the same label they use when talking about the Democrats. Thereby insinuating that Bush governed like a Democrat. And who wants 4 more years of that right?
Theyre already starting to do that. If you watched the last debate, they said it multiple times. I doubt its going to do them very much good. Most people still remember when the candidates defended and supported Bush, so the sudden about-face at election time might even backfire on them. No way of knowing though.

The majority of Americans disapprove of the war in Iraq, but the majority of Republicans don't. They will nominate the candidate that holds positions most closely to their own. THAT is what you have to consider, otherwise Ron Paul would have a much bigger following amongst Republicans, and perhaps a few more of the candidates would come out opposing it as well, other than saying "it was mismanaged."

Obama's navy approaches up to now quantity to claiming credit score - close to completely to himself - for polices that pre-date his Presidency and which he fought to preclude. Before this weekend Obama's SELF-recognized finest luck used to be "no longer finishing Bush's Iraq coverage" after he'd failed as a Senator to preclude it. Now he is smug approximately an operation that used to be initiated in 2007 - or as you assert "placed into position through Obama" (do you even understand how lengthy Obama's been President?) and that could were ended if "renegade" Judges hadn't balked Obama's try to PROSECUTE the ones concerned. Seriously, CAN you pay awareness?

Republicans will stick it out with the Iraq war because Bush and Cheney are benefiting from it according to many Americans.

Conservatives see a politician who changes their mind as weak and ineffectual. Liberals see politicians who are capable of changing their minds as leaders who are thoughtful and intellectual. Bush was seen as strong and resolute in 2004. He hasn't changed his position, but he is now seen as distant, unaware, and stubborn.
