A person that writes well will try to gain the reader's attention immediately, keep the reader glued to the book through tense transitioning, well-developed characters that are familiar and not so familiar, and utilize the "trim and cut" method of cleaning out unnecessary verbiage, cliches, trite expressions, and meaningless dialogue.

A person that writes well shouldn't resort to long-winded sentences as I just gave to make a point, but sometimes it is necessary.

Qualities Of A Good Writer

2016-11-10 07:22:02 · answer #2 · answered by Anonymous · 0 0

As far as personal qualities go, they just need to enjoy writing and be able to work hard at making sure they write everything they desire it to be written.

If you're talking about the literature they write, I think originality goes a long way. The classics, although they have now become almost cliche, have endured the test of time because something was different about them. That doesn't mean forgetting the past of literature; it means adding yourself to it in a different way.

I think there will never be a book that everyone agrees is great, so a writer has be content with rejection. As long as they write from their heart, there work should be satisfying enough.

Good writers should be well read. I suppose it's not a necessity, but it will further their literary knowledge which will help in their writing.

Hope that helped. =D

A good writer? Well, a good writer is someone who tries different things and realizes what works for them or what doesn't work. A good writer also knows when to go back and re write something. Another thing is that a good writer takes criticism from anyone who gives it.

when you are reading the writer becomes invisible and the book is everything. To be lost in the literature to the point you are living it, that makes a great writer.

A good writer knows the work is not about him/her ... it is about the words on the page.

"Good" can be debated as far as quality of writing, but in general, a good writer is any writer someone enjoys reading.

To try to become a writer who gets read, you must study the craft consistently, get critiques and edits, be willing to rewrite, and rewrite again, learn the process of publishing and marketing in order to understand the business, and most importantly, you must keep writing. Like any other job, writing improves with practice.

A great writer can simply create sensory images for the reader that makes a reader think, "Wow" and also help the reader learn a truth or come closer to a truth he or she may or may not have realized before.

When I remember certain passages of certain writers---and finish a book with a "wow" factor....usually the book had those 2 qualities....Not to mention great characters and plot.

Imagination. The ability to make old ideas seem new -- usually called orginality. Finally, a strong work ethic and the ability to internalize criticism and be objective.

It also helps if you enjoy writing, but despite what some people say, not all the greats enjoy what they do. Some find it a tortuous process. To them I would ask, "why do you do it?" But it's certainly not necessary.

Someone who is dedicated and perservering with their work, understands his or her craft inside and out, and can easily connect the reader through their words.
