The most obvious example was the 'war' on Iraq - almost all of the pro-war arguments were based on untrue 'evidence'.

The idea is a valid one, because information needs to be beneficial to somebody, in order to be propagated 'globally'. Untrue information is both easier to come by, and easier to profit from, than truth.

The original quote is probably from Mark Twain, and summarised the concept better by saying "... WHILE the truth is putting its shoes on" (ie preparing its material properly).

The more vague version using 'before' and 'boots', is usually attributed to the UK Prime minister Jim Callaghan (although his script-writer had probably taken it from some other, less prominent, contemporary speaker; this is normally how politicians get their 'finger on the pulse').

Lie is seductive and has the undoubtable strength of potential doubt and possibility factor for existence which makes it travel like high speed data transfer (as we do in internet chatting worldwide) while the truth could become powerful only after its acceptance! So the saying goes as you said !

Philosophy would say that there is no truth and that all history is a lie. There is no example of anything in history as nothing is happening. You believe in history because you were told to.
