Is it safe to take your tongue ring out during the healing period?

I was brushing my teeth and noticed some food build up under the ball of my newly pierced tongue, is it safe to take the barbell out to clean it? I'm thinking I should probably wait for the swelling to go completely away and then clean it, any suggestions? and does any one know the healing period for a pierced tongue?

Do not take it out. If you do, you will not be able to get it back in. Forcing it will only cause damage. You will not be able to take it out at all for 10 weeks, and then only to quickly change the jewelry. You don't need to take it out to clean it. (you won't be able to leave it out for more than a minute or two for at least a year)

You should wait for the swelling to go down. Im assuming if its still swelled up youve had it for less than 2 weeks. You could take it out, but it might be painful to get back in when it still has swelling, and its possible if you left it out long enough, you wouldnt get it back in. try just unscrewing the ball and cleaning that, but leaving the barbell in your tounge, clean that with a Qtip, so it doesnt ever have to come out of your tounge.

NO!!!! Do not take your tongue ring out for a few weeks it needs to be comepletely healed and have had no swelling for a for weeks before you should take it out! Otherwise something could get in there and cause an infection, adn trust me you don't want that.

no at all dont take it out or it will close up!!!!!! your tounge is the fastest healing part of ur body!!!!!!
