When someone gives you a weak handshake?

Do you still firmly grip or are you caught off-guard?

I go ahead and shake their hand, but I hate the way it feels, and I wonder....Why didn't their parents teach them to shake hands properly? I wonder why parents don't teach a lot of things these days. For instance, when did it become OK to chew with your mouth open. YUCK! I can't hardly stand eating at a restaurant anymore. I want to holler over to them and say, "Ya know, I shouldn't be able to HEAR you eat?" Seriously.

I give them a regular handshake. They are the ones that should feel like dumbasses! A handshake does say a lot about a person...

It's kind of weird for me -- my family is German and I'm used to a really firm grip. But in other cultures that's not polite, or something, and so a lot of people I shake hands with now do it a lot wimpier. I don't care, but sometimes I worry that I might offend them.:(

I feel weird. I never give someone a weak handshake, and then I feel like they might think I'm trying to be affectionate towards them or something.

shaking hands isn't done in all cultures. native american ppl did not shake hands, and in most tribes it's considered rude, or aggressive to grab someone's hand with a firm grip. many non-native ppl don't understand this. they also don't understand why we don't hold direct eye contact when talking with others'. it's actually an act of being polite, but is viewed as being "sneaky" or "shifty."
