Lay a wet, water wet, soppy rag on it...surround it with a dry one so it does not spread...leave on til it is softened, then scrape the residue up with a spatula, or paint scraper tool.
Good Luck!

Buy Goo Gone.
It gets rid of grease, gum, stickers, crayon, tape, candle wax, tree sap, oil, and other sticky messes. It would work great for syrup.
You can buy it at any hardware store, Target, or Wal-Mart.
Good luck! =]

Scrape off as much as you can. Wipe up the residue with a hot soapy rag, or you can try Goo Gone.
