because for one thing not all women like those types of movies me and my mom being prime examples for one thing she loves action movies a lot but she really loves mob movies she hates chick flicks and as for me i love horror and animation movies

I don't know but it is a pretty dumb term. I like all kinds of movies and sometimes even try to avoid ones that are overly sappy and emotional. To each it's own.

everytime i use that term, i feel a little guilty--so if someone comes up with something better, i'll try to use it.

and, yes, it's a generalization, but i think (i could be wrong) that MOST women enjoy movies like Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants (is that the name of it?), Waitress, Music and Lyrics, etc. and because MOST women like them and Hollywood almost specifically makes those movies for the ladies, the term chick flick started being used (and if the words didn't rhyme, we would probably be using another term).

It's just a category to let you know what to expect from a film.

I agree, I hate most "chick flicks" they are generally pretty dumb.

I guess the same person who came up with the words "HERnia" and HURricane", but definitely not the person who coined "HYSterectomy" and "HEMorrhoid"!
