I've been to the Ford assemly plant in Chicago (where Taurus & Sable are built)
The Ford & the Mercury vehicles come off the SAME assembly line. They are built by the very same hands & machines, useing exactly the same powertrains.
Mariners & Escapes are both built at the Kansas city plant.
It is funny though....the J.D. Power & associates reliability studies show Mercury as more reliable.
Just as the same studies show that Lexus is more reliable than Toyota.
I think that it is a matter of "perception" rather than "fact"
The Mariner & Escape are both equally reliable & quality vehicles. They both perform identically well.
Do not be fooled by the perception of others.
Look at both & choose the one that suits YOUR tastes & budget.
here's an example of a comparison:

They're basically the same vehicles. The differences in J.D. Powers surveys are mostly statistical or mathematical.
Buy whichever one you like better. Some Fords have better styling i.e. the Explorer compared to a Mountaineer, but a Mercury Milan might be more appealing than a Fusion...its just a matter of preference.

They're basically the same car, made by Ford. If you want to waste money to impress the neighbors, go with the Mercury; otherwise, stick with the Ford. The only difference is trim levels.

ford and mercury are made by the same company, and all mercury cars are ford counteparts, and they do minor cosmetic changes. in other words you always end up buying a ford escape weather u get the ford or the mercury and even if u get the mazda tribute (ford owns 33% of mazda)

well, mercury is in the ford company. mercury is a more luxurious line of cars though. so you will be paying a little more for a mercury than you would for a ford. i believe the mariner is slightly larger than the escape, i might be wrong. it's up to you, your budget, and whatever you like. i hope this helps.
