Who thinks it would be a good idea to just form a newly found NHL league (obviously named something else) but have the players run it casue they are the only ones that seem to know what is going on. I mean beating the NHL's ratings right now wouldn't be hard at all

The WHA tried to launch the WHA2, and the WHA again during the lockout of 2004. Bobby Hull was name president of the new-WHA.

I believe there is way too much tradition in the NHL to form a new league. Also. the new league wouldn't get any better ratings unless they got big tv deals (which is what the NHL needs to do) and get airtime on ESPN.

I think a new league would be a bad idea and make even fewer fans watch the game because the NHL fans would be upset about their former NHL team's being gone

Not so bad an idea since this current league and crazy basketball Commissioner Bettman who is ruining the league and trampling traditions could use a little competition. Ticket prices are insane now. NHL is the most vulnerable league to competition and could be forced to reckon with a new league. I almost hope it happens. The WHA shook up the NHL once let's try again.

I'm all for it. I even have a team ready and willing. They're called the Knoxville Icebears.

As for the players running it. Very bad idea. With a few exceptions, hockey players do not make good coaches, owners, GMs, broadcasters, promoters, or anything else that relates to the business-side of hockey. - They make good hockey players.

Business/Hockey - They are two different animals.

Again, with a few exceptions, smart business people go where the money is and there's more money in basketball, football and baseball... so hockey is being run by the left-overs that the other sports didn't want. - The result is the cat chasing it's tail.

New League? - If you have the many many millions it would take to get it off the ground, I would support it.

Yes, they can...

The CHL, AHL, NCAA and other leagues already provide excellent bang for the buck in the less than big-league markets(and some big league markets), so where can a new pro league go? The Quebec Rampart sometimes sell out the same building the Nordiques did, but CHL players get $75.00 a week and their billet. There are NCAA teams that draw huge crowds and the players get an education in return. How do you compete with that if you have to pay big $ for your talent?

What happened to restarting the World Hockey Association? They were going to do it during the lockout. Even named cities that it was supposed to be in. They would have like 6 teams the first year. Yeah where is it? That tells you where your league would be. If THAT disappeared then I don't think any league is about to pop-up.

That wouldn't work, the contracts would be WAY to big for any profit to be made.
