so when they slide either head first or feet first they do not leave their fingers exposed. They hold onto the gloves to keep a fist which will prevent another player from crushing, breaking, or cutting them (their fingers) with cleats, knees, body, etc....

All the above reasons about sliding with their hands, and it also keeps them from doing any hand motions that might give away when they're going to steal. Keeping your hands around your gloves keeps your fingers from inadvertantly twitching or rolling up into a fist when you're about to steal. One less subtle cue the baserunner gives to the infielders.

It's a way to keep the hands balled into fists, helping protect the fingers against banging or bending against the base or falling under an errant cleat.
Baseball doesn't have the sheer physical violence of football, but there's plenty of opportunities to get banged up and bruised.

it extremely is impossible to call a in demand-day Ruth bc he replaced into additionally a 20 activity winner. in case you forget that he replaced right into a great pitcher you may could desire to assert Arod. He could desire to finally end up hitting 800HR. Many Ramirez could be a extra robust cutting-area-day Gehrig bc he's an RBI device. as far as CY you may desire to assert Maddux. He has 350 wins. the way the activity is performed right this moment with pitch counts and a high quality start up being considered 3 runs over 6 IP i won't see any of the hot youthful crop of pitchers acquiring that # of wins. you may desire to comprehend that CY had 316 losses besides. i think of Beckett could be a extra robust moderna day Bob Gibson

they sometimes run with their batting gloves in their hands because when you slide into a base you want to keep your hands up and sometimes that helps keep their hands up and out of the dirt( to keep from scraping.

It's to remind them not to put their hands down when they slide. This way they don't break their fingers, wrists, hands, etc... Sometimes players hold dirt in their hands too, for the same reason.

Because they want to?? I think its ridiculous. Leave em on. Take em off and put em in your pocket. Give them to the first base coach, but I dont know why they want to hold them while they run.
Could just be a superstition I guess.
