I rode a bus once across country to meet one of mine for Spring Break. Of course, that was a while ago. Things change. But if I really cared for someone, I'd do what I had to do to be with them.
I know someone who drove halfway across the country to spend a few days with her husband while he was on leave on his base during training.
I'd say it's directly proportional to your level of commitment to your lover. (Unless you're just psycho and need to be commited.)
