Imagine say 200 nations, the majority of countries but not the majority of the population, make a horrible decision, and the five nations on the security counsel, who represent the MAJORITY of the POPULATION were NOT able to stop some rediculous move - what do you think would happen. Now I haven't verified that the population numbers are true - but the logic stands to reason. Also, the last two World Wars involved these nations, and all these nations have nuclear weapons.

The US, UK, Russian Fed, P.R. China and France deserve their veto power, because it wouldn't be fair for a country as powerful/rich/etc. as the us to have the same power as ghana. (of course the veto is in the Security Council only, where the most important issues are discussed. But, you knew that) Anyhow decisions of that caliber need support of the 5 most powerful nations in the world.

actually i don't think its legitimate to have veto i know that big countries like the us and France cant come under the same category that includes Mali or Mauritania for example but some of those big countries is ignoring the fact that right is power and power ain't right cuz they r calling Veto on every decision that might affect their interests or them allies interests in a bad way whither they r right or wrong and that is the reason why we have a world full of hatred and animosity

This was set up after World War II, and in my opinion an antiquated way of doing things. If we want to bring more equality into the world, we need to stop this practice.
