I am in the acting business, and I never have had to pay my manager. Instead, she gets 15% of what I make. My friend was in the mall one time when someone walked up to him and told him he could be a model, and handed him a card, which I thought was fishy already. Then he just called me from the agency, because they were asking for 950 dollars and I immideatly said not to pay it, because you should not have to pay a modeling agency to represent you.

Is there any reason that you should have to pay a modeling agency?

You should NEVER have to pay a modeling agency anything other than the commision that you described. $950 are you kidding me????? No, that's a scam, for sure.

You never pay anyone up front. A modeling agency who thinks you have potential will help you up front, you still don't pay until you book a job. Don't let your friend get scammed!

That is a scam, the way agencies make there money is how you work with your manager. Anyone asking for money up front is a scam.

I know about acting agencies more than modeling, but it sure smells like week-old halibut to me. Bravo to you for saving your friend from a ripoff, disappointment and possibly worse. In fact, I'd call the police bunco squad if I were you.

You're 100% right! Atta boy! Set your friend straight and hopefully some people will read this and not get scammed. You've done a service to the kids who post here looking to get famous. You're a smart kid. Eat a big hot fudge sundae on me!

That is definately a scam! You should never have to approach an agency, and if they do approach you they should recieve a commission, not a fee like that.

No. Your arrangement is correct. There are a lot of scam agencies that merely suck in fees for list, photos, etc.
