I am fourteen years old and I am 5'2'' and I weigh around 126. I have currently been wearing sports bras to make my breasts appear smaller and when I have gone shopping for a regular bra I get frustrated because I can never find a size that fits me right. My left breast is much larger than my right and the regular bra that I do have is a 36DD. I am really uncomftorable with my breast size. I am too embarrassed to wear a bathing suit because I feel like my breasts are showing too much. I do many sports, mainly soccer and gymnastics but it is so painful to run and exercise with such large breasts. I have had back problems for a while and I began going to the chiropractor which hurt my breasts as well. I am only 14 and 5'2" and I already have breasts as big as a DD. I have heard that the youngest age that BR can be done is ages 14-15 but then i have also heard that doctors wouldnt even see a person younger than 16. What age is too young? Am I a candidate for this surgery? Please help

And I do understand all of the complications with this surgery but I know that this is what I want more than anything.

I have had a breast reduction. I was somewhere between a 36-40 DD. I also was getting back problem from the size. I'm 5'3'', and weighed, quite a bit more, and if it hurt me at my weight, I can only imagine how much it's hurting your "small" frame. The doctor will ask if you have grown any in the last bit. That is a main factor. Because think about it, what is the point in getting a reduction, if you are still growing and it just comes back. For me, I'm from Canada, so I had the whole procedure covered by OHIP. But I hear it's fairly expensive. I went from a DD to between B36 (without padding) and a C36 (with padding) So I feel MUCH better. It released much pain and stress from my back, but I also still have problems from all the times before. I'm 20, so I'm old "enough" to make the decision on my own.

So like I had mentioned before, the only REAL reason why being "too young" would be a problem, is if they grow back, obviously not the the EXACTLY the same size, but somewhere near it. The average female stops growing (everywhere) at the age of 21, you may have stopped growing your breast, but BECAUSE YOU ARE SO YOUNG, there is no way of knowing FOR SURE. Another thing, the doctor will ask you to lose weight if you can, to try and reduce the breast naturally.

As for the few weeks your healing. I had it easy, I healed quickly and had little to no pain. The only time it hurt was when I tried to sleep on my side. Get used to sleeping on your back for at least the first week. My friend also had a reduction done, but she was in excruciating pain for the first week. It all depends on the person and the doctor. So just be careful, et all the information first, ask the doctors all sorts of questions, go for the consultation, see what the doctor says. And once you know all you can. Then decide what you should do. Personally, I think you should wait another year or two, just to see if you grow anymore, and if after a year of remaining the same size, then go in again. And get it done.

I had a breast reduction when I was 22 years old and you are definitely a candidate. Have a discussion with your parents about the surgery so they can make sure it's covered by their health insurance. You also may need your regular physician write a letter stating exactly why you need a breast reduction. As far as the age limit I would call your local plastic surgeon's office and talk with the receptionist. They will know at what age the surgeon will do surgery. I would say with all your activities and back problems the surgeon may make an exception. Good luck.

When I was in the Navy, one of my troops showed me a picture of her taken a few years before. She stood 5', and looked like Dolly Parton. She had breast reduction surgery. She was having back pains, shoulder pains. She lifted her shirt and bottom of her bra and you could barely see a light pink scar under her breast. (Yes, we were that close as friends...long story.) She is a beautiful gal and since the surgery, she was a much happier one, too. Talk to a surgeon about a breast reduction. Like Dawn, I think you'll be much happier. One day we had a party at the home of one of my other troops, and I noticed Dawn and a large breasted neighbor in the corner talking. That summer, Tina (the neighbor) was over in her bathing suit and something just didn't look right. She soon said, "I have to take this thing off. My stitches are itching like crazy." Then it dawned on me (pardon the pun) that she, too, had breast reduction. Those little puppies were standing proud. Good luck!

Hi there I too understand what you are going through. When I was 14 I was a DD and I only recently had my surgery. I am 21 now and I had a Breast Reduction in April this year. I went from a 12G to a 12DD ( 34G to 34DD). I know that mine since the surgery are actually the same size that yours are now, but because mine are now pretty much solid and perky, they cause me no problems. You would probably find this out for yourself if you ever have the op.

My surgeon told me that he has performed surgery on girls the age of 15/16 so it would be worth your while meeting with a surgeon to discuss your options.

Your mom is most likely right as you are too young to have this surgery. Few surgeons will unless you are VERY big and it is affecting even casual activities.

This will greatly help you when you are old enough to finally get one.

Have you gotten sized at Sears or JCPenney or Nordstroms? (DONOT do victoria secret as they never have sized larger breasts correctly. experience and other people's experiences as well)... Get properly sized, then find a supportive bra. I've worn TWO bras at the same time to help support my big boobs until I had a reduction last year.

In the meantime, your mom and you could check out this site, it has a TON of information and support boards for you:

Actually i don't think you are to young. I heard Drew Barrymore had a breast reduction at a real young age too. If its affecting your life the doctor will do it for you. You should go in for a consultation.

I know how you feel, I'm 5' 4" and 130lb. I'm a 32E It's no fun. But I used to play a lot of sports *I was a wrestler* I had to wear, no joke 3 sports bras. I know it;s hard now, but don't get a breast reduction until you're older. The side effects are much worse than the benifits. You'll get used to it I swear.

I can totally sympathize. I am 36 now but had the same measurements when i was your age. I was a cheerleader and gave up on track because it was too painful to run. I hope he doctor will do your surgery. I still plan to have it done, i have o wait because of some medical issues i have now but i understand what you are going through. Unless you have had this problem it is hard for others to understand it. Goodluck sweetie.
