Are you serious? He is living with Mario, you know the TEAM OWNER. He is being made CAPTAIN for next season. Yeah they PLAN to sign him. If there is ANY question it is WILL THEY BE ABLE TO. Will he want to stay with the team? If he wants to go elsewhere when he becomes a Free Agent they can't do a whole lot to stop him.

No, they're going to trade him for Nik Antropov at the deadline, destorying everything they've worked for over the years. Of course they're going to re-sign him. Hell, Crosby can't even talk to any other team with the Penguins' permission until he's 29 because he'll be a restricted free agent.

Hey, Bob, I'm pretty sure it's 29 for unrestricted free agency. Under the old CBA, it was 30 or 31, so the owners will never agree to an age as young as 25.

It's too early to tell. Who knows what kind of financial condition the Pens will be in by the time he is an unrestricted free agent? Crosby has always said he wanted to be a Hab, is he willing to take less than what the Pens might pay him to fufill that dream? Maybe he really likes the Pens now and he would turn down better money to stay with them. There are so many variables and his free agency way down the road yet.

Yes the Penguins will do anything they can to keep Crosby in a Pens uniform for the rest of his career.

Of course. What people fail to point to you is that the expiration of his rookie contract does not make him an UFA. The only chance he goes anywhere EVER is when he becomes a UFA at like 25. The same can be said for Staal and Malkin really, they are cheap labour for a few more years yet and by the time they all reach FA then who knows, maybe the cap is 60 or 70 million by then.

Yes.

In fact contract discussions are rumoured to be ongoing. The new deal between the NHL and NHLPA allows for renegotiating a rookie contract in the final year.

yes they will. lemieux took a pay cut when he was younger, to fit under the salary cap, so his team could win the cup.he then was to recieve a large salary after he retired. but instead of recieving the money, he bought the team at a reduced rate. they will probably offer crosby the same type of incentive to stay with them. this way they can support him with the players he needs to win a cup, all while staying under the salary cap.

Yes, he will be a lifer but they will have to give up some great talent to pay him enough. They will be stuck with one great player and the rest of the team will be a lot of low rent nobodys.
If they let Malkin go, they will definately go nowhere.

of course! the guy was just named the youngest captain ever! he's amazingly talented, very young and has a lot of potential- they'd be nuts to let him go
