Well, see, you're not alone in your love of Japanese cartoons. There are millions of us all over the US. Even more in it's home country. The hardest thing about being a fan of this is finding people to share it with.
I agree that morons and common folk ruin anything they touch, but having people in real life (because face it we can find others like us online) that know what you are talking about is lovely.
Moderation is the key, keep it open to your circle of freinds.

Um mm....that's already happened.
I've been reading comics for over 10 years, and I saw the very starts of the Anime/manga fad. And the market has really exploded over the last 5 years!
It's gone from being lucky if Best Buy had even 1 shelf of anime, to having and entire section! Same with book stores and their Manga selection. It's incredible how many titles are available now that weren't a few years ago!
But really, that's what you want. If it isn't popular, then no one will carry it!
I have felt that the quality of anime being released has really taken a nose dive since it has become popular. Most of the titles don't interest me, and I tend to only pick up stuff I liked before, or only purchase new series by authors I already like. But even though I am disappointed with the selection, the availability of products has gone up, and prices come down!
Most manga cost me $15 a volume just 2 years ago. Now the average price is $10!
Anime is the same. Most VHS tapes, (yes I started watching that long ago!) cost on average $30 and at first, and a lot of them only had 1-2 episodes per tape!
Now you can get DVD's for around $20-$25, that you get at least 4 episodes per DVD, AND have the option of watching them subbed or dubbed!
And for those who can't afford to buy their anime, they have the luxury of being able to watch many of them on TV!
The only anime being shown a few years ago was the totally "kid friendly" stuff like Pokemon. Now Cartoon Network and others are showing more teen/adult oriented anime.
So although it is true that the market might become "flooded" with a lot of lame series, it's a small price to pay for being able to see any at all!

Well, anime is getting increasingly more popular. It's inevitable and as much as you may want to you can't stop it.
I mean, I remember about two years ago when I was the only one at my school who knew what anime even was.
The thing that pisses me off though is the little thirteen year olds (especially emos) who go around claiming that the love anime when they've just heard about. Seriously, you just wanna slap them, especially when you been a fan for like 17 years yourself!
Atleast at heart you know if you're a true anime fan.

I agree with "Sinner" above it is regrettable that there are so many self proclaimed anime "fans" just because they started watching Naruto on their local cable network.
You also bring up an important issue with soooo many new Anime fans, you will see many producers with $$ signs on their eyes who will exploit perfectly good anime by creating fully unnecessary spin-offs or bull...movies, filler episodes, etc.
But let's not forget that the one thing keeping studios from "pulling the plug" on our favorite shows is profit. Without it great Anime will never grace our TV screens. So I say let Anime be praised. At least true fans will always have new material to criticize or adore.
Long live Anime!

Um..sorta..but I want a few people to know about it, because where I am most people have absolutely no idea what I'm talking about when I mention Anime/manga. I'd like to talk to other people about it, rather than sit there listening to discussion about TV soaps and dramas...I don't watch em lol.

Please learn to write a phrase coherently. Check your spelling too which helps a lot.
I keep reading and reading and I do not see what you were trying to say. Sorry, but please rethink what you wrote and maybe it will make more sense.
