everybody says you can jerk start a 4-wheeler without a battery but it won't start when i jerk start.

should have a charged battery. I would not jerk start anything. you might pull start it but dont jerk it around. anything properly maintained will start.

Always give year, make, engine size and model # when asking questions. We need all of that info to give an informed answer.
You can't start that quad in that fashion.
It has an automatic (centrifugal) clutch.
The rear wheels and engine aren't engaged with each other until the engine is rev-ing.
It's like trying to push start a motorcycle with the transmission in neutral.

first tell the jerk you need a battery to complete the circuit even if it's a dead battery, and you don't jerk one to start it, you get it rolling then put it in 3rd as not to stress the tranny,

The start button still has to be on run.
