Cuba are poors yes, but we canadians help them to aleviate the burden of the US embargo, and we are proud of it!!
Maybe Fidel Castro has ire the US, but their peoples have never done a scratch to the US... This whole thing is just a stupid political chess games, and who pays for it... Innocent peoples... So now the Cubans don`t stamp our passport anymore, so to allow Americans to travel there from Canada, so the Us immigration never learn about it... Isn`t nice...;)
Actually, life is cheap there, so they can live, but have trouble to get some necessities, so when Canadians travel over there (much better and safer, and cheaper than In Cancun), they bring some goods that they can`t purchase because of the embargo, like cocacola, chocolate bars, clothings, shampoo, and many other small things... It is quite a pathetic experience to see how much things they are missing over there...
Edit: I think some americans don`t understand that the embargo is affecting American companies doing business there too... So it means that even if a product is made in China but belongs to an American company, this product CANNOT enter Cuba... So, since most products manufacturers in the world have some kind of American interests and investment in it, it also forbid them from suppliing Cuba with goods made in other countries...
Also, If, for exemple, a Canadian company or any other foreign company for the instance, is doing business with Cuba, then the products of the said company could not enter the US market... This is the EMBARGO on Cuba you are all talking about...

Hmmmm, so your saying, that a country can have trade relations with 228 nations, but the fact that they don't have trade relations with America, caused them to be in poverty ?
Wow, I didn't know America was so important to the world in preventing poverty.
After all Canada is Cuba's second largest trading partner behind Russia, shouldn't that be enough to ensure Cuba's economy thrives ??

If you go to Cuba... been there six times now.
You will find that poverty in Cuba is extremely different than poverty in other countries.
Cuba is hardly "third world" in comparison. Considering... life expectancy (health care), education (everyone is entitled to a university education), no one starves,
Relatively speaking... they are NO where near what we have... but damn... there are some (many) places in the US that are worse than in Cuba...
ie/ detroit! many places in Louisanna and in South Carolina!
Yet.. in America is one of the most expensive place to get Education or Health care... yet its free in cuba....

Yeah - funny - Cuba's "communist" -- also has an excellent health care and education system and given the poverty caused by American sanctions, does its best to treat its people well.
But watch the US send trade delegates to and from China bearing bj's and gifts.
China? Human rights are violated en masse in China. But then again, maybe America can relate with Gitmo.

No.
America is the only country in the whole world who won't trade with Cuba. Every other country trades with Cuba.
Cuba's problem is communism, not America. Every single Communist country in history has ended up in the same way.

Yes I do, I also think American criminals were skating with scandalous amounts of dirty cash via Cuba. Cuba who subsequently dumped their prisons onto Florida.

Of coarse. But communism and poverty goes hand in hand. If they had better leaders, we could bless nation with opportunity.
