We bought a '94 GT convertible mustang on Saturday. It has 148 K miles on it. The man who sold it to us claimed it ran great, and gave us a bunch of paperwork/receipts documenting the work he had done on it. We drove it home to Killeen from Roundrock and it was fine. But Saturday NIGHT my husband noticed a good size puddle of coolant under the car. It needed the upper hose replaced. Then this morning the drive belt (?) busted. We thought that was the extent of the problem but when working on putting the new belt in it was discovered that it needs a new pulley and the mechanic said something about a new pump needed. This is a family friend so hes not just saying things to get our money. Are these problems that the previous owner was probably aware of??? Is there anything I can do/say to the man we bought it from?? This just PISSES me off!!!! Grrr! We paid way over bluebook value for it because this guy insisted he put all this time and money into the car!!!

We paid $4,000 for it. He lowered the front end with racing springs, put in a new stereo, a viper alarm system, and put on flow master mufflers. It has several scratches, one major scratch on the back as well as a nice size dent on the back. It also has some minor interior damage (ripped visor fabric , etc, small stuff) I'm just SO mad. Am I an idiot? Did we get taken? UGH! Now already-- in just ONE day I've spent $175 in parts! We're lucky the labor is only costing us a case of beer or 2 !

thats what sucks about dealing with family and friends, if there is a problem, you dont want to ruin your friendship over it. you should probably ask him if he knew about all the problems, and ask him if there are anymore that need attention right away.

no the problems that you have mentioned can come up at any time with a car even one with lower millage. Like the pulley problem until something goes wrong you do not know that there are other problems associated with it, or the upper hose that can go at anytime. You may be pissed off but these are tings that cannot be hidden and are part of buying a car. The question is why did you pay way over blue book, and not deal?

Thats not a bad deal for a GT convertable. Special interest cars like this reach a point where they dont depreciate any more. You will never see a GT convertable in drivable condition for much cheaper. Camaro, Mustang, Corvettes, they can be ran into the ground and still hold their value pretty well. Mechanically, its a Ford with a 148K on it, your gonna have some issues. Ive never had good luck with Fords past 140,000 miles. Anything with wheels will give you problems, just be glad it wasnt a engine or transmission failure. Sounds like a decent deal to me.

the problems you are having as a general rule do not show warning signs they just go so there might be a good chance the previous owner might not have known these were going to be problems. i am not trying to side with anyone but just stating what i have seen in my experiance the things you are dealing with seem like a major thing right now but in a month from now when you are enjoying the car you will be happy with theal you got.

Whenever I buy a used car I always anticipate spending another $500 - $1000 fixing stuff/replacing parts I was not informed of when buying the vehicle. Happens every time. Don't like it buy a newer model right of the dealership.
