I'm getting a pet mouse and I just wanted to know which kind of cage is best: wire or glass? I had a glass cage for my 2 previous hamsters, and it worked fine for them, I was just wondering if it's better if I switch to wire. Also, if there are those plastic tubes in the cage, will the mouse climb through them? Thanks! If you have any other advice with pet mice, let me know!

It should be glass tanks for mice really, it's true they can squeeze through seemingly impossibly small holes. That said, I've kept all my mice in a wire cage so far and haven't had a problem - well the first two were in a tank at first until I knew they never paid any attention to small holes, so I put them in a wire cage coz it was bigger.

Mice won't be able to crawl up regular hamster sized tubes, they're too big, so unless you can find mouse-sized tubes ( I don't think I've ever seen any) you'll have to stick to ladders. Look in Petsmart or other big pet store chain, they all make great set ups especially for different types of rodent.

Other than that the most important things with mice is not to give them wood shavings, especially cedar or pine. Bad for their lungs. I always use shredded paper for bedding and paper flakes ('safe bedding') as a base. Diet also - feed exclusively mouse mix (if you haven't got a Petsmart or similar near you, rat food is also fine).

Oh, make sure you've got a wheel or two in the cage, essential for any rodent! Mice are clever, they need toys and plenty of space to run about and hide to stop them getting bored.

A glass aquarium with a screen as a cover. Depending on the size of the mouse, they sometimes can squeeze through the wire-type cage. They love the tubes and running on the wheel! Have fun!

Definitely glass. It's easier on their feet, and it's possible for some mice to escape from wire cages, even when the bars are extremely close together.

Some mice like crawling through the tubes, but not all, so I can't guarantee you anything. Try putting some toilet paper tubes in there, since those are free, and see if the mouse likes those first.

Just so you know, in case you don't already. . . mice are social animals, and they will live longer, happier lives if you get a pair. ^_^

get a glass cage, that way they dont get out. remember mice are like jelly and they fit in small places. im guessing they do like the tubes, ive never had mice. but for sure stick with the glass.

glass works best with a screen top.. make sure to use clamps for the top.... they have suction cup water bottles . you don't want a gap in the top. good luck they are cute to watch
