= 24 qt 12 pints
= 24 qt + 6 qt
=30 qt
= 30/4 = 7.5 gallons

You are doubling the volume:
6 pt x 2 = 12 pt. convert to qts = 6 qt
7 qt x 2 = 14 qt. total = 20 qts
Convert to gals = 5 gal.
