One of my two favorite girl names is Lorelei/Lorelai. That is actually Rory's name from Gilmore Girls, her mother named her after herself and Rory is the nickname. If I have another girl, her name will be Lorelei and Rory will be her nickname, though our 9 week old daughter is Genevieve and her nn is Evie, but we almost always say Genevieve because we want her to love her full name too. I knew a Rory in high school who was a guy and one of our best athletes. I think Rory is better for a girl now but I would choose Lorelei and use Rory as a nickname.

Either. I like it as a full name or nickname for a girl, but only as a nickname for a boy. Rory is a good name for an adult woman, but for an adult man it sounds too childish. I picture an adult female Rory as an independent, creative, successful type, and an adult male Rory as a mama's boy who has never had a functional romantic relationship. I've never met a Rory of either gender, though.

I know 3 boys named rory & no girls, so I always associated it with a boys name. But, now that i think about it maybe its is unisex.

Because of Gilmore Girls, is popular thought of as a girls name. However, it is traditionally an Irish male's name, nickname for Robert (don't ask me how). It means "red king". So, while I may be a nickname for Aurora, its traditionally a male name.
