Never really enjoyed math, but I do it anyway. Any advice on learning to do and understand conversion factors? Example:

The distance of a 220. yard race is equivalent to ___ cm.

The answer is 2.01 10^4. How'd they get this?

convert yard to feet. We know that 1yrd = 3ft
220 yrd * (3ft / 1yrd) = 660 ft

convert feet to inch. We know that 1ft = 12in
660ft * (12in / 1ft) = 7920in

convert inch to centimeter. We know that 1in = 2.54cm
7920in * (2.54cm / 1in) = 20,116.8cm

or 2.1 x 10^4 cm

hope this helps

1 inch = 2.54 cm
12 inches = 1 foot = 30.48 cm
3 foot = 1 yard = 91.44 cm

therefore 220 yards = 91.44*220 = 20,116.8 cm

= 2.01 x 10^4 cm

1 yard = 91.44 cm, hence:

220 yard = 220*91.44 = 20117 = 2.01x10^4

220yards *3ft/yd*12in.ft*2.54cm/ft=20,116.8 = 2.01*10^4
