My textbook has a problem where it asks me to find the radius of a cone. It gives me an area of 500pi u^2 and a height of 5 ft. However, I can't seem to get the right answer. I think that it is because the formula T=pi*r*l+pi*^2 calls for lateral height. Can someone please help me solve this problem?

l = sqrt(r^2+h^2)
Make this substitution for l and you are on your way.

The height of the cone has nothing to do with it and neither does the lateral height. You have been given an AREA, not a VOLUME.
The Area of the base is the area of a circle, given by the formula
A = pi R^2
500 pi u^2 = pi R^2
500 u^2 = R^2

R = 10*sqrt5*u
