Please explain in the most basic, understandable way. What is RAID and what is it for? how does it work? i tried looking in "howstuffworks" and there is nothing there....
thanks a zillion!

it stands for Redundant Array of Independent Disks

You have different lavels of raid, IE: raid0 raid2 etc.

Anyway. basically it means you run a bunch of harddrive sthe same make and size to perform certain tasks.

Lets say you want really fast data access by no need to backup your data.

You would run raid so you use:
2x harddrives

each drive will only hold HALF of the data so drive one has 50% the other drive has 50%
when the OS wants the files it will read both, getting 100% of the data by 50% faster.

If you wanted backup for instance, you would mirror.

So lets say 2 drives have the same data on both.
you get the same normal speed but if one drive fails you still have all your data nd will continue to run until its brother is replaced.

Type this into google for more info define:raid

Redundant Array of Independent Drives The process spreads the data across all disk drives to assure that no information is lost if a drive fails. The minimum is RAID-0 which rewuires at least 2 drives and essentially just makes a duplicate on the second drive. The next step up in RAID-5 uses at least 3 drives and spreads the data across all three drives in such a way that all of the data can be recovered if and when any of the drives fail. This allows the system to continue operating while prepaarations are made for the repair. All of this is accomplished by using a RAID PCI or PCI express expansion card. This controller dispatches the files to the drives in use on the system. This is a highly effective way to prevent data loss and adds to the redundancy of performing system backups.

RAID stands for Redundant Array of Independant Drives. It means you can hook up a bunch of hard drives to work together. There are various 'modes' which RAID uses, which are numbered RAID0, RAID1, .... up to RAID 5. each mode performs a different function on the selected drive array (specific drives selected to work together). The functions include mirroring, striping, mirror+striping, etc.

Yeah, shall we supply up. i did no longer advise to try this out of malice, subsequently, absolutely everyone seems to be gloomy. we can raid a clean area. besides, 3 of my questions have been pronounced. I enjoyed my "help! I"M PREGNANT WITH AN ONION?" question, lol.

Raid is a bug/insect killer.
It comes in many forms such as a spray, gel, traps, and powder.
They have different kinds of Raid for different insect problems such as: slugs, roaches, flies, ants, bees, spiders etc.
So umm yeah just go to Home Depot and read the back of the bottle. or go to http://www.killsbugsdead.com
