Well, you do have to remember, when you run, your knees must take much more impact than walking. When running you usually pound your knees(i was on cross country) and ultimatly isnt good for your knees(if long distances). Walking is a very small impact, since you have no momentum or very little, and your feet dont have to impact hard to move faster. Stretches might help, its where you just bend down, and go up.(With your knees), and then you go in a circular motion. I had the same problem, since i teach Tae-Kwon-Do, in sparing I had injured my knee. Lay off it for awhile, i mean exercise, just not to much impact. That "should" help, but yes go to a doctor. Good luck.

I'm going to give McGraw Hill the benefit of the doubt, that her suggestion of 4 x 200mg of Motrin was a typo. Prescription ibuprofen is 600 mg per dose, not 800. Yes, see a doctor! That kind of pain is not a thing to ignore! Do your knees hurt with both kinds of saddle? My knees often suffer when riding a western saddle if the stirrups aren't turned correctly, and an English saddle if the stirrups are too short *for my preference*. Yes, I prefer a longer stirrup than is *correct*, especially compared to a jumping stirrup length. For the western, soak the stirrup leathers and dampen the backside of the fenders (don't soak them because the wet place will leave a mark on the front side), then turn the stirrups and hold them in place until they dry. It's best to do this around a barrel or something that will push against the stirrup to force the leathers to bend sharply. Just hanging on a sawhorse won't be as effective, but it will help some. If the saddle has users with different leg lengths, it's best to oil and soften the leathers where they go over the tree, then you can move that end instead of moving the carefully shaped stirrup end and losing that shaping. I've found that the horse liniment called Thermoflex Gel is great for painful joints and stiff muscles - but I'm more than 3 times your age! You should not be suffering this way at age 14, and it might be doing damage that will cause you even worse pain as you age. Please see a doctor or sports therapist about this! You can also work on your horse's "need" for "lots of leg". A well-trained horse should respond to light cues from legs and reins. If you can't get the help of a trainer to lighten your horse's responses, get some mild spurs to reduce the amount of pressure you need to apply. Your mom should not be letting you refuse medical attention. It's the job of parents to make sure kids are safe and healthy and not injuring themselves.

You are only 18 and you have problem with your left knee. First and foremost thing to do is to diagnose the cause of the pain. If it is a tear of the cartilage or any sort of damage, it is essential that you help it recover since you need that to be healthy for a long long time. Do not take it lightly. May be one of your sudden jerks has caused it. So an x-Ray or even an MRI may be needed. Once the cause id detected, the remedy is easy. Do not neglect; and please for God's sake do not use this forum for serious medical consultation. That can cause serious repercussions for you in future.

I've had problems with my knee, on and off, for years. Just give it a rest and the pain will go away. However, you are right.... probably is loose or torn cartilage. My mother-in-laws best friend just had knee replacement. The Doctor said she had no cartilage left in there, it was just bone against bone.
Take it easy!

It might be that the cartilage is thinning and your bones are rubbing together. That's one possibitity, but there are many. Dont go running until you go to the doctor. Dont even do stretches or anything until you do... you dont want to make anything worse. I have that cartilage problem... and also, my knee locks up on me and I collapse. Hurts like hell. I do kickboxing to strengthen my knee. My knee hasnt locked up since I was pregnant 8 months ago.

Age has nothing to do with it you shouldnt do anything else until you see a doctor. I had the same problem and it turned out that i had a torn meniscus and bone spurs in my knee. the pain might subside a little after awhile but it wont go away completly until u get it checked out and know what your dealing with and fix it.

Knee brace.

Actually you shouldn't stress the knee until you find out what it going on. If it's a torn cartilage you could possible cause more damage by stress the joint.
