Do you mean the white mineral deposits??
If so , then boil white vinegar in the kettle and wash out with a mild 'scrubby sponge.'
The vinegar works well for coffee pots as well

White vinegar works really well. Just add it to the kettle, run it thru one heat up cycle and pour and rinse well.

Brown vinegar works too! Stinks and you need to boil it a couple of times after to get the taste out, but it works brilliantly! And you can boil it to speed the process up - just cover the element and boil with the lid open so you can watch whats its up to!!

pour some vinegar & let it soak all day--don't boil the vinegar as it will boil over & make a big mess. after it has soaked, throw a cup or so of rice in it & shake it to death-the rice will scrub any residue off the coil. empty it out & rinse it well

if you can soak it in vinegar (white) this should do safely but it will take a lot longer than a harsh chemical so be patient! Good Luck
