varicose veins are veins which have a lot of curves in them where they should be straight. with most blunt injuries, i.e. hitting your leg on something, bruising occurs. This is usually caused by rupture of your capillary veins, which are the smallest types of veins. The capillary veins are very small and fragile. When these rupture, or break, blood leaks out into your tissue. This is what your bruising is from. Being overweight can help contribute to varicose veins developing. smoking can also be a factor in varicose vein development. The glossy look comes from decreased circulation because you had some "surface veins shut down." When there is decreased blood to an area, there can be a difference in pigmentation orsecondary charecteristics, such as skin health, hair growth, etc. Recommend following up with primary care doctor, maybe start taking Vitramin B and E

varicose veins mean that you are active - which in the bigger picture is a good thing - it means you lead a healthy lifestyle.
If they are bothering you go see if the doctor can provide some relief. If you can avoid it at all - DON"T get them removed. My mother in law had the biggest veins removed from her legs when she was in her early 30's. They were "unsightly" she said, but only made her uncomfortable sometimes. Well.... years later when she needed a triple by-pass (heart) those are the veins they use to re-route the blood supply around the heart. They had to use the large veins in her arms which weren't sufficient.. Something to think about.

Your doctor is correct, and having the surface veins removed/shut off will improve your situation. You will need to take care about your legs getting bumped hard, or like the bike pedal, these are symptoms you will have with this condition. If you injury is more severe than a bump, or you feel there may be a clot, seek medical attn quickly.

varicose veins are hereditary, in your twenties as you have found they are not obvious unless you damage them, but as you mature they do swell and they become obvious and unsightly, and often painful.
When you had the surface viens "shut down" you limited your circulation in your legs that is why now that you have injured it again, it is swelling and the swelling is such that the nerves are compressed and you cannot feel. You should elevate that leg as much as possible so gravity can work for you in reducing the swelling, and you need to discuss being fitted for compression stockings with your doctor.

Take a photo from your legs while you are standing for several minutes , then send it to me . also if it's not exceeded that 24 hour , compress it with cold packs , otherwise with warm packs .

I wish I can help you, truly.

My grandmother suffered from them.

It may be part hereitary (are any of your relatives afflicted as well?), and part environment.

The best I can offer is that you should stay active and watch your diet carefully.

If they should ulcer (as with my grandmother), you may need surgery.
