I don't think you have to worry about until your water is broken. There are many people that choose water births so I don't think there is a problem. With my third child, I went into labor in the early morning. I got up at 3:00am and I was determined to stop my labor. I took a bath. I couldn't stop my labor. When I got to the hospital at 4:20am, I was 100% effaced and 9cm dilated. I had no infection. I do think it is safe to take a bath if you know for sure your water isn't broken.

I was 4 cm & 100 % effaced (and head in the 1 then 0) with both of my children for a few wks! It is safe to take a bath as long as your membranes havent been ruputured yet. Labor and delivery could start for you in one hr or two wks,, its all up to your baby! I would ask to be induced if I were you!

I labored in the bathtub. They used to advise pregnant women to stay out of the bathtub, then they decided it was OK until your water breaks. Now you can bathe whenever you like. Some practioners still hold onto the rule about no baths after the water breaks, but no big deal.

No! People have their babies in water you're not going to get an infection unless you have a really nasty tub then you could get an infection anywhere that you have a open sore etc.

Effaced just means you are soft. As long as the water has not broken yet you are fine.

I wouldnt have said so as people give birth in pools which is really just a big bath. Talk to your midwife if you are worried.
