I wouldn't make a big deal out of it, just the next time she is going to the store or whatever just say "mom, could you pick me up some pads?" If she questions you just say you aren't comfortable talking about it but you will come to her if you have questions.

The brownish stuff IS your first period. And yes, you need to tell your mom.
You may spot for a day or two, then it will go away and come back again. Its best to carry pads where ever you go now because it will take some time to regulate.
Go talk to your mom. She went through the exact same thing you are now and she understands more than you know. Just walk up to her and ask to talk to her privately. Say "Mom, I've gotten my period just now. I'm okay, but I need some pads please" I know its awkward, but she has been there too.

You need to think about how you would feel if you had a young lady of your own who got her womanhood an didn't tell you! I know that it will be awkward just talk to her about it first, maybe by asking how old she was when she got hers, and what kind of pads are the best for you to use when you get yours or if she thinks you should use tampons. Maybe you could suggest the next time you are at the store together yaw looking at the choices and maybe choosing one so that it will be there when the time comes to need it. Moms love this kind of stuff I know that I told my mom and she was so proud you'da thought I won the spelling bee or something. And I hope that my daughter when the time comes (she's 7) will feel comfortable enough to tell me

I would tell your mom because she's going to find out sooner or later, and it's really helpful to let her know because if you ever need help with anything, she's been there and won't think anything of it. =)
And if you're shy about telling her you need pads or tampons, the next time you're in the store, just discreetly toss them into the cart, and she'll most likely notice but won't say anything. ( well, not in the store anyway =p).
Another suggestion would be to leave her a note somewhere where you're sure only SHE will see it, so that you can tell her, but you don't have to face her (or have your brother/father see it). Hope this helps and good luck =)

Your mom should be expecting this, so it will not come as a surprise. Trust me, she's been dealing with this for years, so it's not a sensitive subject for her. You will not embarrass your mom by telling her this.
I know it is still a sensitive subject for you, and you do not have to go into all of the gruesome details about it. Just keep it as short and to the point as possible. As you said, she's doing the shopping, so you need to let her know that she needs to start getting some pads (or tampons) for you too.
I told my mom when I started, but we didn't have to have a big discussion about it. You're getting yourself worked up over maybe 30 seconds worth of embarrassment. :)
Ok, you want to know the exact words to say... Mom, I think I've started my period. I don't really want to talk about it, but could you start getting some pads (or tampons, depending on preference) at the store for me too?
-----
Edit: Sheesh, I wish I knew what I did wrong in this post. What's the thumbs down for?

well, tell her becuase it is better to break the ice now then to have it being akward for a long time. just go up to her when she is alone and say, "mom when you have time, can you drive me down to cvs to get pads. i got my period." if you show her what you know about it, she will prbably be nice enough to skip and lectures she was hoping to give. good luck, and dont forget to take some tylenol or advil.

sounds like you are getting your period. i would tell her: "hey mom, i got my period. can you take me to get some pads/tampons and a heating pad?" when i got mine, i was so happy, lol! i was in my late late teens when i finally got mine... sheesh, it took forever. i think i was about 15 or 16. so mine was more of a celebration! i was happy because i'd finally gone from being a girl to a young woman :o) be happy :o) congratulations :o)

Talk to your mom or another mature female friend or relative. It will be even more awkward when you do start if you don't have the supplies you need.

of COURSE you should tell your mom. Just be like, "mom, ummm I have something to tell you. I got my period, and it sucks." Yeah. Something like that. It won't be awkward. Your mom has to know this.
